By default as they ship from the factory, I believe Prowlers did not have any front license plate holder, only the lighted rear. Personally I think a front plate damages the aggressive look and don't want to put one on. Espeically as the front plate kit on kats requires drilling into the front bumperettes from what I can gather...and convienently I don't own a drill, or a screwdriver So here are a number of questions on front license plates and kats that I've had: 1) Does anyone know of a listing online of places where front & back plates are required? California, specifically, has been killing me. AFAIK the state as a whole doesn't require front plates, but certain counties/cities reserve the right to ticket you if you don't have a front plate...is there a listing of those? I've not been able to find a good consolidated summary. 2) Say I'm driving an out of state vehicle with only a rear plate in a state that requires front and back plates. Could I legally be ticketed outside my home state for not having a front plate? 3) If you display a second license plate in one corner of the windshield does that count as a front plate? 4) I've seen the nice aftermarket front plate holder for stock grilles that doesn't require bumper drilling. Is there any type of similar product for TGF custom front grilles? I really don't want to have to put that ugly thing on my front bumpers and am hoping that another option will present itself ed 4) I've seen the nice aftermarket front plate holder for stock grilles that doesn't require bumper drilling. If you make an honest attempt to make your plate viewable from the front of the vehicle, then that's acceptable. I've read this somewhere before, but I don't remember who said it. 4-> Don't put the plate in front of your grille - blocks the air flow. I recommend RealRod's bracket or something similar. front plate pic... ------------------ If you're interested, see: ------------------ http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/d03/vc5004_6.htm I can't wait until our kats qualify for the "classic" specialty plates. IMHO, they're already classics I think I'll keep my spare front plate in the windshield just in case I ever happen to be driving through Ohio, Jersey, or one of those "special" california towns. I wonder if the lack of front bumpers would help sway a regional judge ed LMAO!! Though you may want to watch out for this solution...I have gotten a warning for driving on public streets in the incorrect orientation before. I still wonder if it was for being in reverse or for going 15 MPH under the speed limit. Stupid reverse gear ratio. In retrospect I guess it's a good thing they didn't see me perfecting my powerslides and donuts edsexlessape (I'm not sure if this is "offtopic" and I didn't do an exhaustive search first, but...) No front bumpers to put it on anyway! If i get stopped hopefully it will be a warning. I'll pay the fine. No fronts going on my Kats! If i'm doing something wrong i'm driving away in a forward direction not in reverse. The cops will see my rear plates. GRROWL Here's a good, fast and easy solution:

-GRROWLobi-wan Cal. law does say that you must have a front plate. It is up to each officer to decide what to do about it. Almost all of them will leave your kat alone but I know of one exception and that's around Heldsgurg. There is a fairly young CHP that has written at least one prowler for no front plate. There are prob. more but that's the only one I know of. I have a hinged plate under my front bumper if I have it on the kat. It swings up at about 40mph and I have a locking pin sys. to hold it up if I wish. I've only built one of these for my own kat so far. At some point I'll figure out A trick kit for kats without bumpers-I've got some ideas but I need time to work them thru. Obi-Wan butchcee in da trunk. ed monahan You will not get ticketed out of state since most cops won't know your state's requirements and they should have better things to do.
That said, there is always one jerk to jerk you around.
We are required to have two plates in Ohio. My cat will be 5 years old in about 6 weeks. Never stopped for not having the front plate. I had an 87 Camry and the front plate got torn off in a car wash. I never put a front plate on and then my mom drove it until about 3 years ago. Never was stopped for that either, in about 13 years. christina I have been ticketed - don't mind paying as long as I only get a ticket once a year. It doesn't go against my licence where I am from - so I don't mind paying $40 cdn once in awhile...I personally think the plate in the front spoils the LOOK.....christina Prowler Check your state's laws concerning Street Rods. In Minnesota the law says any car built to resemble a street rod can get a Street Rod plate, only the rear plate is required for this class of cars. 1buddyc Texas requires two plates- I keep my front plate under the passenger floormat, just in case.....and hope for the best!
I dont run front bumpers either. Buddy

NEVER A FRONT PLATE & NEVER A TICKET. SO HOW BIG CAN THE PROBLEM BE. IN FACT I HAVE NOT HAD A FRONT PLATE FOR OVER 12 YEARS WITHOUT A TICKET sexlessape Thanks for all the wonderful feedback on plate location and what it is in the states!! I have friends who also haven't had tickets in california with no front plates on older cars. I actually found it really interesting to hear about the special Street Rod license plate. I hadn't even thought about htat...man, it'd be fun to have special plates for our kats. Unfortunately it seems like it was just removed from the cali DMV laws : sexlessape quote:
